12/11 Wynn Nature Centre 3:30

Plan on an easy hike, and may sled if there is an area for it.

12/4 Karen Hornaday

We'll bring some sleds and do some sledding too!

11/13/2013

Time to start back up.  For now, I will be alternating Wednesday mornings and afternoons at different locations.

First meet up is today at Karen Hornaday-3:30.  Unfortunately, I woke up to a sick kid last night, so we won't be there, but I hope there is a little group to enjoy this beautiful, brisk day.

If you feel like getting people together outside go to Homer Outdoor Play on facebook

Our weekly schedule has now changed and I will no longer be leading Homer Outdoor Play on Thursdays.  I haven't chosen another day as of right now, but if someone is interested in keeping this going on Thursday or a different day, let me know.  It has been a great motivator to get outside with the kids to enjoy all types of weather.  We hope to continue getting together for playgroups or walks outside by posting impromptu happenings on the FB page.

1/22 & 1/24

A great walk through the forest this morning! The temperature was high 30's and the sun was out! Conditions were variable, the beginning of the trail trail was clear of ice and snow and most of the actual trail was ice. We avoided the ice as best as we could by walking on the sides to avoid slippage. Ice cleats were helpful today!

The pace for everyone was different as some kids wanted to play off the trail and others were happy following the trail. We did catch up with everyone at different points on the trail. The kids had a blast frolicking on the trail, playing in puddles, and climbing trees off the trail. What a great morning!

1/15 &1/17 Mariner Park

It was a bit windy and snowy at the beach, but we were overdue for a beach fix. I think we were the only ones who thought it was a good idea to play at the beach, besides the Homer Hounds dogs:) We had fun running around, finding sticks, sliding down rocks, sweeping the snow with grass, and finding shelter from the wind. Come join us next time!

1/8 & 1/10 islands and Oceans

The clouds were heavy this mornin, calling for a much needed walk outside. The trail was nice and packed down and somehow led us to a stop at Two Sisters;) The kids enjoyed a nice slow paced walk, and one got to break in her snowshoes. Everyone was in good spirits and seemed to enjoy this fantastic loop.

12/18- 1/1 Karen Hornaday

We are going to take Thursdays as they come for the next 3 weeks.  It is likely that we will attend, but aren't going to commit.  The location will be Karen Hornaday, so if you feel like you want to go and play, it may be likely that you'll have some other players.  Last week the park was super icy, so hopefully the weather changes and we get a good snow cover.  It looks that way.  Times will remain the same tuesday 3:15 and Thursday 11:00.  Communicate on the FB page if necessary.

12/11 & 13/13 Karen Hornaday

A warm temperature of 38 degrees and a skating rink outside!  We should have brought some ice skates. A few families came out for a bit of play at the park today.  The kids played on the swings and found traction under the play structures to minimize slippage.  A short outing today, but hopefully next week we will have some snow to play in......come on snow!  Feel free to make suggestions on locations for the rest of the winter.

11/27 & 11/29 Karen Hornaday

A chilly and beautiful morning up at the park today!  A group of kids and an out of town family member joined in on the fun today!  With more little bodies buzzing around, there is more fun to be had and longer time spent outside.  The sun was shining and it is always a great spot to take in the beautiful view.  I think Karen Hornaday has the best view of any park I have been to.  I am sure others might agree!  Thanks for the fun!  Hope to see you all next week!

11/1-Mariner Park gone Karen Hornaday

We tested out the beach for about 15 minutes, but the wind was chilly. It was definitely bearable, but since it was just us at the time, I decided to head up to the park where there would likely be less wind. Just as we were about to leave, another mom and her kiddo pulled up and they met us at the park. With a few phone calls to some regular players, we re-routed them to the park.
There was hardly any wind at the park and we had a great morning up there. The kids had fun on the swings and catching super fast rides on the snowy bumpy slide. Thanks for joining us, it's always worth the effort. Even the days where you endure meltdowns that result from children peeling layers to then find that frozen little fingers aren't soo much fun....or perhaps a result of too much Halloween candy. Nonetheless, it's always better for everyone to get out to enjoy some fresh air and social time.

10/23- Starting back up for winter-Karen Hornaday 3:15

A sunny morning of play at Karen Hornaday!  It was soo beautiful out and great to be outside with friends! Thanks for coming out!

After the fun times we had playing outside last winter, we decided to give it a go again this season.  Even better, Kate Crowley has organized an afternoon playgroup that will happen on Tuesdays at 3 15.  Thursdays have changed to 11:00.  We will generally keep the location the same for both days, but be sure to check the blog or the FB a couple hours before an event to ensure nothing has changed.  We look forward to playing outside with you!

Stopping for now

I initially started this outdoor playgroup in the winter to motivate myself and others to connect outside in the winter months.  I have kept it going and have decided to stop planning meetups for the summer, as there are a variety of outdoor activities offered around town.  Thank you to everyone who has come outside to play or offered up suggestions or your property to play on!  We have had a blast playing and exploring! If there is any interest in starting back up in the winter, let me know. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

7/12-Bayview park

It was a quiet and breezy mornin at Bayview, and the rain held out for us!  I love this park for it's fence! It's nice because the kids have wide open space to run and the option of the playground equipment, all enclosed by the fence.  The rocks, bridges and the slide built in the grass are all good fun as well! Another mama joined us and we warmed up with a cup of coffee while the kids burned off some energy.  Great combo!

Meet at 10:30-looks like it is calling for rain gear.

7/5-Lands End beach

We had a great time exploring the beach today!  It's always a treat to see what the low tide uncovers. We saw quite a few starfish, fishermen, shells, driftwood and seaweed.  The seagulls were nesting everywhere above us on top of the dock posts.  I kept forgetting that I was standing right under them, but after a wake up call on top of my head, I was a bit more cautious.... Yuck! The kids chased each other, ran around aimlessly, observed and spotted starfish, and played along the shore. We all enjoyed a little snack n chat on the beach after. Lands end beach at low tide makes for a great beach outing with much to see.

6/28-Karen Hornaday

A fun morning of play at the new Karen Hornaday.  This is one of the best playgrounds with some really cool features!  Being up there is a constant reminder of what a great community Homer has and how people can come together and make amazing things happen.
This morning was overcast, but warm enough to leave the coats in the car. The kids explored all over the playground today, they even made use of the mud puddles around the perimeter....imagine that.  No one was dressed to wade in puddles, so throwing rocks and fishing with sticks sufficed.  The adults got some conversation in which is always a bonus on top of watching the kids playing happily.

Meet at the playground at 10:30
